There are certain guidelines that must be followed when restoring windows. The U.S. Secretary of the Interior’s Historic Buildings Standards provide a detailed explanation for preserving historic wood windows. Most companies are not equipped or trained to work with windows of historic significance. As such, they can do more damage than good. In most cases, they’ll simply suggest replacement.
